Now, a bit of friendly advice... Choosing What To Wear: To answer this question, you must first answer this: What are you selling? There are no set rules but remember with clothing, if you stuff your shirts in a bag they will look like they were stuffed in a bag for the shoot. Bring them in a suit carrier if you can – even t-shirts, it will make a difference. Think about solid colours, Try to wear colours that compliment your skin tone. This will help accentuate your natural features. Always bring some neutral tones and plain dark tops as a choice. Beware of Patterns. Glasses- If you always wear glasses we can shoot with them on, although sometimes they can distract away from your eyes which are the most striking part of your headshot, so you may wish to shoot some without also, so take contacts if you have them. Jewellery- Try and avoid distracting accessories such as large, shiny necklaces and earrings, it will take the focus away from your face, unless you feel your casting type really requires it. Jackets -Its worth thinking about bringing a couple of jackets that are contrasting, if nothing else you can use them if you shoot outside to keep you warm, but they might add something a little different. Makeup- Less is more. Its always easier for people to imagine you with more make-up on, not so easy to imagine you with less. You want to look your best, but also you don't want the first thing people think to be 'wow, she's wearing a lot of make-up...' Its worth arriving with just a basic layer of make-up on at least, (unless you NEVER wear make-up) and if needs be you can build up from there. Bring your own makeup and hair brushes. During the retouching process of your selected images I can take care of blemishes and other 'things' on your skin. Heavy makeup tends to look a bit caked up and can be tricky to retouch. Remember the camera and lenses photographers use produce images at far higher definition than even HDTV, and our job is to flatter you, but your head shot has to look like the person that will walk into the audition, so don't wear more than you would naturally. Men, don't feel that because you have a blemish you need to borrow your girlfriends make-up and try and cover it up, during retouching its quite a simple process to remove blemishes, but harder if you have a slightly tinted patch where you have slapped on some foundation! Skin Features – Do not hide your skin's personality! Flaunt your freckles. Show your scars. They are a part of what makes you unique. Unique features are what makes you stand out and makes others sit up and take notice. Eyeliner – Keep it soft, applied sparingly, and not too heavy on the lower lid. Hair- Such a vital part of your look. You need to be happy with your hair, and you want it to frame your face, so if your hair is very straight and long give it some body to accentuate your face. Don't feel you have to go to heavy with products, wear it how you normally would, but its worth having an experiment with a few different styles before your shoot. Ladies, it's always worth trying a few looks with your hair up, it may affect your age, and also can look very 'period' or 'classical' Don't cut your hair the day before your shoot! It will look like you just got a haircut. I always say give your hair at least a few days after a cut to relax. But think about what your hairstyle says about you, your image and ultimately your casting. Finally... Get Some Sleep! This tip is a simple one, but something people may forget. Get sleep the night before your shoot! When you are well-rested, your face and eyes look more relaxed which is obviously what you want in the pictures. So, don't stay out till 10pm or watch that extra hour of TV the night before the shoot, get your z's guys remember your paying for it and you should look your best.
